The Making of a Song - "Broken Year" (Meet the Studio Musicians)
Meet Sean Hurley and Noah Needleman!
Both the guitar and bass recording sessions for "Broken Year" were done by A-list studio musicians. Sean Hurley ( L.A.) is on bass and Noah Needleman (Nashville) recorded the acoustic guitar.
Bassist Sean Hurley made his mark in L.A., playing bass on tour and on record for John Mayer while maintaining an astonishing pace as an in-demand studio bassist with artists including Ringo Starr, Annie Lennox, Robin Thicke, Alanis Morissette, Vertical Horizon, and Colbie Caillat.
"There’s nothing I enjoy more than getting to play bass for an artist who has a great song and trusts in the talents of her musicians. I’m thankful Sylvie chose to work with me and let me be a part of her music." - Sean Hurley
Noah Needleman is the Music Director for Brett Young and responsible for all elements of Brett's Live Show, producing both his Spotify and Acoustic Sessions releases. He has also worked with Allen Stone, Colbie Caillat, Boyz II Men, Nichole Nordeman, Zach Williams, and producers like Dann Huff, Jon Kaplan, Jimmy Robbins, and others.
The process includes giving each studio musician a draft recording, the sheet music, and a metronome marking. The metronome is extremely important as all the parts have to lineup correctly in order for the mixing engineer to do their job correctly. Of course, musicians at this level can keep time, but it's good to have everyone on the same page. The studio musicians record 3-6 tracks which usually takes about 3 days. After I receive the tracks, our mixing and mastering engineer, Bryon Harris, of BWH Music Group, puts everything together. The final mix and master will be done when all the studio sessions are recorded.
Next Step: Mandy is recording the lead vocals!
