Smile — A New Song

I just finished writing the lyrics to my new song, “Smile.” It’s the second song I’ve written for a grandchild. My granddaughter has been smiling since the day she entered this world, and her smile isn’t just adorable—it’s transformative. It softens the edges of my days. It slows down time in rushed moments. It anchors me to what is real. And it made me realize: we don’t talk enough about how the small things can change everything.

One of the new verses goes:
“No matter what story I try to imagine, Nothin’ compares to the smile you’re wearin’. Doesn’t matter what room I happen to be in —Your light pours in like a curtain left open.”
This song is about how love comes into our lives and rewrites the story we thought we were telling. In a world that’s constantly asking us to hustle harder, chase dreams faster, or scroll endlessly, it’s easy to forget the power of small, soul-changing moments.
Those are the moments that matter. Those are the moments that make us .And if I leave behind any legacy at all, let it be this: that I loved deeply and was changed by something as gentle and profound as a little girl’s smile.
Let "Smile" be a reminder that life isn’t always about the big things. It’s about the small ones we almost miss.
